Gizmo's Story

The Story of Gizmo

We got Gizmo, July 15, 2001. Decided on no other shots than what the shelter gave, just like our cat, Sneakers before her.

Took her to get spayed when she was 6 months old. The vet refused to do the spaying with out her shots, yet did them the same day as her surgery.

Big mistake. I wasn’t thinking, what INSTANT immunity could the shots have given her, so that now she was “safe” in his clinic? As well, surgery takes a lot out of an animal at the time, so do shots, it was like getting hit twice. I know better now.

3 months later she started to have a sinus problem, along with swelling lips. Took her to vet # 1 who prescribed antibiotics for 14 day’s, even though antibiotics, don’t help with viral conditions.

She seamed to recover. 2 months later (March of 2002 – so she was about 1 year old), again with the sinus, and the lip swelling. Vet #2 did not know what we were dealing with, knew full well about vet# 1 and what he prescribed. And did not same thing. Same drug, but 10 day’s. Problem did not improve, but did not get worse.

Next month, vet # 3. They work only on cats, and knew immediately what it was. Rodent Ulcer, or Indulent Ulcer. She knew what it was, but the industry still did not know what caused it. Because it manifests as ulcers on the lip, they called it Rodent Ulcer, because they thought it was from bites of mice the cats caught. But it was happening in house cats too, with no access to mice. Some think it is hormone based. Yet some think it is an over active immune system. It does not pass from on cat to the next, so it is not Viral. But the soars on the lips can end up getting infected. Usually once a cat has this, he/she will suffer with flair ups through the lifetime.

So Vet# 3 prescribed, antibiotics (different one this time) and Steroids. Problem improved.

Next bought about 4 months later (about Christmas time 2002) took me to vet#4. Changed vets, because this one had a holistic approach. Or so at least partially. Antibiotics, steroids again. Only now we were changing her diet to raw. As of March 2003 she was 100% raw. Dogs changed long before her. I could not keep feeding kibble, once I did research. Anyway, she never got the sinus issue back after raw, but still kept up with the lip swell ups.

Started to deal with vet# 5 – from Edmonton. Homeopathic vet. Her condition improved (with a few homeopathic remedies), to a point were the ulcers did not form on both upper & lower lips at the same time and it didn’t start with a sinus issue. (If you look now, her lip is ulcerated on her left side only. To me that is pretty good). Poor girl looked so bad with swollen lips. But it still did not go away completely. Christmas 2003 she ended up with a really badly infected toe. War wound from fights with Putz who came into our house October 2003.

Took her to Vet#4 – who of course prescribed antibiotics & steroids. Did tests. Told me she was pre-cancerous. Toe did not improve. I have not taken her back to vets since then. They pretty much recommended we put her down to end her suffering. The toe used to puss up. Get clogged with litter. Seam to dry. Then when the litter fell off, bleed & puss up again. This was the pattern for 1 ½ years. No matter how many times I cleaned it & bandaged it.

1 ½ years later, I found out about Colloidal Silver. Thought it was worth a try. Bought the generator. Good think too, because that is when Dexter joined our family, and had Kennel Cough. That he also passed on to Dudley. Anyway, getting back to Gizmo. After putting the CS in her food for 1 month. Her toes healed. (Wasn’t just one toe anymore, by then the infection spread to most of her foot).

The skin is a wonderful detox organ. Pimples, boils, rashes, are usually the result of something happening inside the body. If it is at the skin, that means that the body is at its last cleaning spot and is getting rid of toxins. I am not concerned about her tummy & inside legs yet. I am keeping an eye that it does not infect. So far so good.

Gizmo is almost 6 ½ years old now. Until the time she was not even 3 years old, she had drugs shoved down her. Starting with the kitten shots, then the next shots at surgery, and all the Antibiotics & steroids that followed. She had more than a lifetime of meds, along with all the issues she had to deal with, and is still dealing with. She has a LOT of detoxing to do. As long as she is happy, which she is. She is more active, playing etc now, than she was when she was 3. Otherwise healthy, which she seams to be. I will not worry about the skin on her tummy & inside legs. It is just doing its job. Suppressing the healing process at this point is not going to help her. Steroids may help her tummy look better. But the problem will be pushed back inside her, only to have to resurface at a later date.

I have learned a lot throughout the years. Mostly, I learned how to watch for things, and when intervene & when to just leave things be. Waiting is the hardest thing.

szerbusz Marianna, that's a great post about your Gizmo. I'm thrilled to read that his foot problem is clearing up with Colloidal Silver. Isn't that some amazing stuff!

I also went raw and no-vax for all my pets back in 2001. Learned about the horrors of kibble, vax, and the devastating effects of pharmaceuticals when my dog got cancer and the western vet said they have to take her leg. I sought out alternative opinions and she survived and in the process introduced me to the holistic world of healing, which I was already practicing to a superficial level through my natural common sense lifestyle but learning about the horrors of the medical and food industry has pushed me over the edge deeply into the natural and holistic realm.

Flash, my dog, made it through cancer WITH her leg intact and finally died at the age of 17 last year. For a German Shepherd mix, and considering the "abuse" I inflicted upon her for a decade with kibble and vaxinations and lawn fertilizers and antibiotics - that's a miracle age !

By the way, which which CS generator do you use? I have the Silver Puppy and am only getting CS of about 4ppms with it.

Hi Marianna, it seems we have something in common. Our kitties and an interest in raw feeding. Yes, I found you from Raw Paws. I was wondering if you would add me to your links list. I'm sure I have something to benefit your readers as well. My blog is: thefrenziedfeline.blogspot.com
